How does Mucomyst® work?
  • Mucomyst contains the medicine N-acetylcysteine which thins or loosens mucus in the airways or breathing tubes, making it easier to cough up.

  • This action of acetylcysteine is related to the sulfhydryl group in the molecule. This group probably "opens" disulfide linkages in mucus, thereby making it less viscous.
