What is Paludrine® ?

This medicine contains proguanil hydrochloride.

What is Paludrine® used for?

Paludrine is used to prevent, and in the treatment of, some forms of malaria. You should get appropriate advice to ensure Paludrine is the right anti-malarial medicine for the part of the world you might be visiting.

How does Paludrine® work ?

  • Malaria is a disease caused by malarial parasites (microscopic organisms called protozoa).

  • Paludrine blocks an enzyme which is needed by the parasite to grow and reproduce.

How is Paludrine® given ?

  • Paludrine is supplied as tablets to be swallowed.

  • For prevention of malaria it is taken once daily; starting at least two days before going into an area/country of malaria risk, and taken during the whole stay and for 4 weeks after leaving the area/country of malaria risk.
