What is Diprivan® ?

This contains the general anaesthetic and sedative propofol.

What is Diprivan® used for?

  • Diprivan is used as a general anaesthetic to put patients to sleep before and during an operation, so that the patient does not experience pain.

  • It can also be used to sedate adult patients who are being looked after in intensive care wards.

  • Diprivan can also be used for sedation during surgical operations or diagnostic procedures.

How does Diprivan® work ?

By controlling how much is given, your doctor can use Diprivan to put you completely to sleep so you are unconscious, or, by giving less, the doctor can make you very sleepy, but not actually unconscious.

How is Diprivan® given ?

It is injected, as a milky white liquid, into a vein by a health professional trained in anaesthetic techniques (anaesthetist or anaesthetic nurse).
